Is it just me....
35 Answers
....or are there others out there who get really irritated at bad spelling? This board seems to be notorious for it. When I see something spelt incorrectly I just ITCH to correct it.
Is it a generational thing? Is it that english lessons in schools these days do not put too much emphasis on correct spelling? In these days of increasing text speak is it old fashioned and quaint to bother to spell properly?
Why don't people use spellchecker? Or even a good old fashioned dictionary? Is it just me being pedantic - am I the irritating intolerant one?
No - I am not an english teacher.
No - I am not an old fuddy duddy.
No - I don't profess to never ever making the odd spelling mistake, but.... aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh
Not all of us are literary geniuses (or should that be geniii?!) - but I just wish people would make an effort when writing to spell correctly.

I always use spell check just in case, but have problems knowing how to 'put things in words' but it still grates my nerves when folk get 'their/there/they're etc mixed up, & it's mostly old school friends who do it! I left school in 3rd year....they didn't so there's no excuse!
Ps I'm sure I was told that it isn't capital E when talking of it as a subject? ie he is English, studying english???? like i say I left school early so may be wrong lol

salladbananas age does have quite a bit to do with it, for istance my fingers don't allways hit the correct key , and when it does it may stay there a fraction of a second too long, producing a multitude of the same digit, this is allways assuming, of course that i can see the keyboard clearly in the first place,
I myself make lots of typos, but by the time you have checked and corrected your mistakes, the thread has very often moved on a long way, and your post has lost its impetus, if it was meant to be a swift retort, to the last person who posted.

I don't mind spelling mistakes, or even grammatical ones- as long as the content is legible that's fine with me.
What I can't abide is text speak, like you, I believe it should be confined to phones alone. Using it on a forum board such as this, shows to me lack of manners and tells me that the person is just too lazy to type correctly.

Any one who knows me knows it's one of my pet hates, in particular there, their and they're, and your and you're, not to mention lack of punctuation and text speak and yes it does make me itch to correct it, but I would never pull anyone else up on it unless I was winding them up and I usually save that for people I know quite well.
I get more irritated by my own typos and spelling mistakes and I recognise this is quite anal of me.

SALLABANANAS. You posted at 11.41 saying you're going to the pub....don't take it that seriously, at least wait till about 5pm! It annoys me when I can't work out what someone is trying to explain when there are no punctuation marks. Try reading a page from a book with no stops.....it just doesn't make sense. Tx talk should stay where it was designed to be.....in the phone system. Now I feel like going to the PUB, where do you live salla? I will join you............
cazzz when you say create an atmosphere, do you mean like 'the good atmosphere' you created when you agreed with one of the trolls on my opening thread?

OK; Monday morning. T'was a long session at the pub & I've now had to come to fooking work where (unfortunately??!!) spelling is most important which probably accounts for some of my attitude...
Anyway, this old bint probably did come across as being a bit toffeenosed - I didn't mean to be. I wasn't trying to be superior.. blah di blah, or get at those who genuinely find it difficult to spell - just those who know perfectly well how to spell most things but just can't be bovvered. ;-)
To move on - anyone got any gripes about grammar?
(that was a joke.)
