They're not 'exams' as such and there are no published 'results'. Other than the normal help with schoolwork that all parents should provide, there's no need to prepare children for the assessments. Indeed, it's better if children just encounter the tasks as part of their normal school day, without the pressures associated with 'exams'.

It basically covers most areas of school work and outlines any areas the children need to improve in...most teachers dont actually agree with them as it stresses some children out, and after having worked in a classroom myself and witnessed it for myself, I think its wrong tbh, we had to seperate the tables and arrange the classroom like an exam hall...we were not allowed to help them, just give out the papers when necessary...it was horrible watching the ones that struggled, watching them look at the brighter children that were flying through them, It puts them under uneccassary pressure in my eyes, I never had all that in my day!!!
My middle son was in year 2 last year & he had to do SATS week in May. However his school did not make it into a big deal, and did the tests in the classroom environment so the children just thought they were doing run of the mill tests as they always did. The only stipulation was that the head recommended the children were not taken out of school for hols in that particular week.
