Not very high - you need to use a penis as well

Assuming that the condom meets the British Standards and was used correctly - i.e. it didn't break, come off etc. it should be about 98% effective. The point is that even using a condom correctly, there is a 2% chance that the condom will fail, and if it does then pregnancy will follow.

well not really waldo - you must then factor in the additional pregnancy risks - which I believe are roughly 5% or thereabout. 5% of 2% is 0.1% but don;t ever think it won;t happen to you based on those figures.

El D, I believe that the effectiveness of condoms is based on live births per X users (I don't know the exact numbers), therefore it is a reasonable indicator. Fertility, fecundity etc are all factored in.

Before I went on the pill (which was quite a few years ago) I was relying on conoms with my current boyfriend, they were put on correctly, no air inside etc, seriously I must have been going through a series of 'bad luck' as the condom split about 60% of the time. They were Durex from the clinic, so from personal experience I have not found them to be very reliable!! Go on the pill hun!x

If the packet says they are 98% safe then they are 2% unsafe. That means that for every 100 people using the condoms as their sole contraception for a year, 2 of them will still get pregnant!
