People at work say to me, "oh you are so thin".... or "have you lost weight"?

to be honest I am not THAT thin. Just my natural beanpole shape.

But why is it, that people think they can say that to a slim person, yet I would not dream of saying to a larger lady, "have you put on weight"

Really gets on my nerves!

Petal,
Today one of my vocabulary words was 'portly'. When a student asked what it meant I said fat, in a round shape. One boy pipes up with, " Ms._____ is portly." (enter my name) I wanted to smack him. he should know better at 14 to say something like that.

I have some thin friends and they also become annoyed as you do. I guess in our thin obsessed culture people don't see it as rude.
One of my kids teachers is what I would call "perfect" she`s shapely..possibly a size 12-14..maybe 16 yet she`s known by the kids as "the fat one" ?????????
I have posted a similar question on this site before Petal Flower. I have been thinner than I am now (8st7lb),at my lowest adult weight I was just over 7st. I have been accused by complete strangers of being a smack head, anorexic, fashion victim and worse. I am naturally thin and can't help being this way.It really winds me up when people think they have the right to comment on my appearance and expect me to not be offended!
Some complete random stranger said to me earlier this week 'ohh, have you lost weight?' and I said 'yeah - about 12 stone - the bas tard left last year!' - that shut her up!!
Oh yes , I get all that too , skinny , anorexic , too thin , etc .
People who say it don't seem to realise it's just as bad as commenting on an obese person . :(
lol hippy!!

Weight is a funny thing. I have gone from 11st 6lb (in July) to 9st 13lb now and 2 of my very slim friends keep nagging me not to loose any more weight.

They think I look lovely how I am now and its funny they have such hang ups about their figures.

I suppose I envy slim women as they can try any clothes on and never wonder if it makes them look fat!
I know I need a bit more weight on me but it's hard to put any on with my health the way it is .
I've been told by my consultant that I use up more energy just by breathing than most people do.Also with a lung condition eating is more difficult as we can't chew for as long as people with normal lung function without needing to pause for breath.I suppose you have very similar problems bigmamma.x
bigmamma - I could magic you some of mine!!
That's right daffy , it's all you can do to take the next breath and , when it's bad and hard to breathe you just can't eat or drink .
Ok sally hun , you're on ......what do I say ....abracadabra?
