Does anyone know the full poem which starts:
"If you want to life and thrive,
Let a spider run alive"

I also loathe spiders, but I accept that they do a good job in keeping down insects in the house which would otherwise spread disease.
I always ignore spiders when I see them, I shudder, but i ignore them, because I know that within a day they will be gone, out of sight, and if i can;t see them, I don;t worry about them.
It is probably impossible to eradicte all spiders from a house - even if youo get rid of the current incumbents, there will be eggs to hatch, and new ones will come in.
Best just learn to at least tolerate them if you posibly can.

Those ultra-sonic things don't work (I've tried them with rats & they're useless!). Spiders are good - but if you really are scared of them, a jam jar and a piece of card work wonders (pop jar over spider - mind its legs! - slide card underneath, deposit spider in jar, put lid on and then release into the garden.). I actually like spiders, but I can sympathise if you don't. The only time I get a bit jumpy is if a really big one surprises me, like hanging on the side of the staircase, when I'm not expecting it!! There was a huge one in my bath last night and the cats didn't even tackle it!! I caught it this morning, using above-mentioned method and put it outside. K x
