funk, soul and jazz music

Hi All

I enjoy the above mentioned music very much. like the stuff where the musicians go into a "deep groove". Anyone any suggestions for any groups to listen too!!

They'll probably ban this thread, but this is my favourite question, I'd love people to let on what good tunes we're all missing out on.
I really like the riff in 'Why did you do it?' by Stretch, as found in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.
Among my current listening bunch at the moment I have:

Oh yeah (2) James Yorkston and the Athletes did a nice tune called 'Langtoun'. This was then played backwards for a remix by Fourtet. Absolute classic, one of my favourites.

And I wasn't gonna put this, but I really like the beat running through 'Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits and 'Long Train Running' by the Doobie Brothers. I also like some of the 'Battle of Los Angeles' by Rage against the machine. I have very mixed up 'taste-in-music' genes.

Funk has to Kool & the Gang in the early 70s (way before Ladies Night), the Fatback band, mid-70s, and War.

Jazz Funk, try Morrisey-Mullen and Mezzoforte

Soul, try Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

forgot to mention for a good blend of funk jazz and soul, try John Handy (70s albums : Carnival, where go the boats, handy Dandy man and Hard work).

Donald Byrd (esp. street lady) and Lou Donaldson were groove-mungous too.
