changing router

has any one been able to use a belkin router instead of the netgear router sky provides?
how is it done?

hello again!

Yeah you can pretty much use any router with any broadband provider.

all you need to do is connect your computer to the router using a cable, enter the IP address of the router into the address bar of your browser, login in with the username and password and then select the ADSL settings and enter the correct username and passord for your connection.

it really is easier than it sounds... setting up wireless if you use can be another story.

ive been reading sky keep the the username and password locked in the netgear router and its a pain to get it as sky themselves wont tell me.

the login for the sky router is

admin
sky

But you don't need them, you need the router login username and password for the belkin so you can update that.

the login for your connection is your email address and the password you specified for you email.

ive tried doing this before without success and the missis isnt keen on me trying it again! do you mind giving me a simple step by step guide on what to do?

why are you trying to change it? netgears are generally better then Belkin anyhow.

but if you do want to change and have a working router don't touch the settings in that at all, just unplug it, swap to the new one and if you cant get the new one working just plug the old one back in and you've got your connection back.

Can't be done I'm afraid, the connection information for the Sky account is stored on the router and you don't have any access to it.
