I have been accused of damaging someone's car bumper when I reversed back in a car park. There was a knock, but on examining the bumper, I could see no damage, but gave the lady my phone number out of courtesy. She has now sent me a letter asking for over 200 to repair it, with a garage quote.
There was no damage at the time and I feel I am being conned. She obtained my address by delving into personal records at a club we both belong to!
What can I do to refute these claims and what come back does she have?

Tell her to bogoff and hope for the best.

And next time don't give her your number if theres no damage x
The personal records at the club are not collated for members to find eachothers addresses. Therefore there has been a violation of the data protection act . This would stand in a court of law. Use this to call her bluff!

Next time don't give out your telephone number - there are professional confidence tricksters who make a living from innocent people who are made to think they have done wrong.
she should not be able to obtain your address and beleive it or not even clubs have to be registered for the storage of members data so she and who gave out the information are in violation, tell her to get stuffed
Report the club to the information comissioner:
