Not seen a thread for this weeks' EV so far ... and it took a while to complete. Anyone else pondering the connection between the novels?

Several recent EVs have been less demanding than normal, but this one I found a real trial ... . Maybe the scope of my reading needs some widening. It was the Hooded Jacket and the Mooring Pole that gave me the dawning. Luckily for me, the novel also became a well-known film.

The link is that the first five letters of the name of the central character of the first novel define the title of the second novel ( one pair of unclued answers ) and the remaining two letters of the first name + surname are a loose definition of the secod pair of unclued answers.
