We found the answer by buying a transformer (not cheap but worth it!) to run from camera to computer ensuring a steady and stable supply.
If this is not your problem come back and I ( or someone else) will take you through the process step by step.
Does your camera appear as an external drive in My Computer? If it does then double clock on the external drive and there should be folder(s) with your photos inside. Simply drag them across to where you want saved.
If you camera requires a special program to do then above then please describe the interface.
FinePix can be complicated. I assume when you plug in the usb cable and attach the camera and then turn the camera on you hear a "clunk" as the XP finds the hardware? You should find a small box open on your screen saying "what do you want to do? open/browse" and you can choose the "copy pictures to a folder on my computer using microsoft scanner and camera wizard". If you choose yes it will download your pictures onto a folder in My Photographs.........failing that, try and download the FREE version of cam2pc which does all this for you. I use cam2pc for all my downloads, its much easier.
