As I understand it, the King's wife is The Queen, if he is the ruling monarch but The Queen's husband is not the king if she is the ruling monarch - he becomes Prince Consort.
They thought this rule would apply to Camilla, but no, she gets the whole nine yards - danger ...incoming....!
Yeah I dont think that Mary I Tudor is a relevant example. Mary insisted that Philip should be King, and told her advisers to get on with it. It was agreed in the marriage treaty that Phililp should be king and then when Mary died, he would not.
