My cat has suddenly just done a crap in my living room and the other night i caught her weeing in the bath , why could this be? we've had her for 5 years and shes never done this before .

how old is she? Sometimes senility sets in, the cat can't remember where the litter tray is. OR is the little tray in a safe, secluded place? away from the prying eyes of other cats through windows or catflaps? She may have been caught out by another cat whilst in her litter tray. Cats don't normally take this action to be dirty, its usually some sort of protest, you need to keep your eyes open to see if there is something upsetting her.

If she usually goes out maybe she has been frightened perhaps by fireworks, and so is reluctant to go outside.
Make sure she has a litter tray or even two so she can find them easily.

If it continues, then get her checked by the vet as she may have a problem which means she cannot wait to go outside.

Have you changed the type of cat litter you use? Sometimes cats won't use different litter than they are used to.

Something may have upset her, which you could well not have seen, and this is makling her behave out of character.

Increase her cuddle ratio and maybe give her a treat now and again. Talk to her frequently, to make sure she feels secure in her 'pack' environment, hopefully she will forget what has happened and return to nromal toilet habbits.
