Please help settle an office argument... Did Cerys Matthews (Catatonia) cover/sing a song called 'Closest thing to crazy'?  I believe it is currently a single for Katie Melua. Help?!

She might have performed it live but as far as I'm aware she hasn't recorded/released it

Road Rage is the Closest thing to Crazy (!)
err, sorry, don't get what you mean.  If you mean they're both the same song, they're not
katie melua and cerys matthews sound identical vocally but katie melua is definitely the only one of the 2 to release it. when i first heard meluas song on the radio i thought it was cerys matthew but it wasn't. defo only sang by melua!
I think Octavius wa suggesting that Road Rage was a rubbish song..
No Cerys Matthews has not covered or released this song. Katie Melua wrote it and released it. And they definitely don't sound identical!!!!!

identical amy be the wrong word, similar is probably better?! they both have a very similar delivery of vocals.

when i 1st heard this song i also thought it was cerys
Katie Melua has only released this song. Mike Batt of "The Wombles" fame wrote and composed it....
Katie Melua does not have a strong Welsh accent, for one thing! My ex-boss rather unkindly reckons that Cerys sounds like a Welsh Orville (as in "popular" children's "entertainers" Keith Harris and...)

i can confirm that cerys matthews did sing "the closest thing to crazy", not sure if it was recorded or released as a single but i remember her singing it live.

as usual cerys rolled her "r's" which is why i remember her singing it.

to all those who said she didn't sing it , you are all wrong, she did

I am pretty sure I saw her doing a version of the song on Jools Holland - it was the first time I had actually heard the song at all and it was beautiful, and Cerys was great, so its stuck in my head all this time - only heard Katie's version recently (and prefer Cerys' version! don't see the similarity in the singing, actually). So, maybe there's a chance it's on a Jools Holland DVD. Anyone seen one/
I'm Welsh and I heard Katie Melya singing earlier, and at first thought it was Cerys Matthews. As I listened it sounded as though Katie was trying to impersonate the Welsh accent - and doing a half decent job of it. I was/ am convinced Cerys Matthews sang this song previously! Although I don't think she released it. (unable to find any evidence anyway.)
