I have been told that at the age of 43 that I have to have a total hip replacement. I have been given 2 months to think about it. I wanted to know if any people of my age on answerbank have had this op. Also should I just carry on as normal or should I been taking things a bit easier, to stop my hip from detoriating*(sp) any more. Any help or advice would be appreciated. TIA bestmum

Ultimately the decision is yours, and you should discuss with your docotrs about what you have to d in the meantime. as we dont know the cause for you needing a thr, we cannot possibly comment on whether slowing down will be beneficial.
Anyway, your decision will largely depend on your symptoms, and whether they are acceptable to you. For example, i wanted my thr to do 3 things
1)give me more mobility
2) take away the pain
3)give me my sex life back
i could have delayed but the pain was at an unaccptable level, i couldnt work because of mobility and i wanted to do loads of sex!!
Anyway, in essence i have never looked back as it has done all the three things i wanted

bednobs thank you for your answer i had perthes disease as a child and had to wear calipers for 2 years. But it flared up again when i was 26 after i had my first child. my mobility is affected and am in quite a bit of pain but have been putting up with this pain for over 16 years. I also still manage to have to have sex!!!! Thank you for telling me your own experience as you said i will have to make my own decision. once again thanks.
