Wooden Floor cleaners

I've got a wooden floor in my dining room. However, with having dogs it's gone really dirty looking and soap and water does not seem to make any difference. Can anyone recommend anything?

if its 'wood' it can be hard to keep it really clean as dirt gets ingrained, maybe give it a good sanding down and apply several layers of a good varnish to ease the cleaning

1:1 vegetable oil and vinegar?

I'd test it on a small patch first. The vinegar smell doesn't hang around long.
