Hello fellow animal people , I noticed Porsche , my black labrador , limping at lunchtime . She couldn't put any weight on her left fore leg . She's very down and not her usual self. I rang her vet and took her this afternoon for a check over . The vet felt her paw , nothing , her knee , nothing , and then her elbow ....screech !!!!
So the vet has given us some Metacam to give her , and to see her again next week .
She had a wee treat in her food dish tonight , cheese :-)

At least dogs are easier to get pills down than cats. My cat is an absolute b*gger in taking her medication, I swear she can smell it at 200yds.

Has Porsche strained a muscle or something BM.?

I hope she improves soon, its awful seeing our pets in pain though no doubt she will love the treats.

The vet's not sure Rosetta hun , she said it could be an injury from playing in the garden , as I didn't see her injure it , or it could be arthritis , she's 7 and a half . She said an injury should settle over the next week so we will know more then . The Metacam btw is a liquid so just gets addaed daily to her food . xxxxx
I have to give the cat metacam for arthritis, I just drop it onto her treat biscuits. Have you noticed how much it stinks yet?
Hope she is better soon x
Hi bigmamma - hope she's back to normal soon. I had to give my cat Metacam for arthritis. It is a lot easier to administer than tablets and does seems to do the trick. I agree with tickledtrout - it does have a strange smell!

Hi tickledtrout and bensmum , it does whiff a bit I agree , Porsche didn't mind it though , I suppose her bit of cheese had a nice odour to her :-)
Glad to hear it does some good for your cats , Porsche is fast asleep now , and snoring :-)

Labradors seem to be extra pathetic when they are ill - maybe it is because they are a bundle of energy and fun normally.

My Lab/GSD developed arthritis at about 8 but it never got really bad. It affected his shoulders and gave him a strange gait to his walk - and an impressive wiggle.
hi mamma sorry to hear porsche has hurt herself to much romping about with the little one i expect .give her a cuddle from me and a big hug to little one

Aww , bless him Wolfe . The vet said I've to make sure she rests this week , so I'll have to keep the puppy from her when he's playful . At the moment they're both asleep , the puppy snuggled into Porsches tummy .

Hi BigMamma... I hope Porsche is feeling a bit better now... My slave noticed that I was limping last weekend, so she insisted on taking me to thenicevetlady (her words, not mine!). Well, if she'd asked me I would have told her that WeeThug had chased me all around the house (again doh !) and this had made me trip over some books in the lounge, and bruise my wrist.. ouch... did that hurt ! Anyway nicevetlady (who really is a nice vet lady cos she gave me loads of cuddles) gave slave a bottle of metacam for me to have with my breakfast.. Trouble is, I also had to have some antibotty tabs and I detest taking them ! Slave thinks she is being clever by crushing them and stuffing the powder inside some cooked chicken but I have sussed her out ! I let WeeThug eat that stuff instead :O

Hi ruthann , Christine , Madboutcats , and Jugglering , she's been resting the last few days , she must have understood when the vet said she was to rest for the week !
This morning she looks a lot better and isn't limping so fingers crossed.
Jugglering , I hope Big Thug is getting better too :-)
