I Have so far had 5 operations whereby they drain the area and either leave a cavity which needs to be packed every day or have stitched the area. Once you have one there is a higher chance that you will get them in future although few people have to go through it as many times as myself, im just unlucky. The problem still persists and in my case, the scar tissue from previous operations has now become a problem area as a reulst. I am due to have plastic surgery on the area in 2 weeks (z plasty, which they do once you have had 4 or 5 operations and choose as a last resort). I must stress that this is rare according to my specialist although if you have this, I do feel for you. I also found that chatting to nurses about questions as well as the consultants was helpful as they don't just spiel out medical blurb. daily salt baths help keep infections at bay.
