Do dogs feel the cold at all my GSD loves the beach and the water. She makes a be line for the sea no matter how cold it is. Everyone stares at her, none of the other dogs do this. I rub her down when I get home but she has to stay in the workshop untill she drys off a little and then i feel guilty that she is cold out there. Am just worrying unnecessary i dont want to stop her as she loves it.x

Well it obviously has done her no harm so far lol

Its funny, our previous dog loved the water, he would take a running leap to land in the middle of the canal. Our current dog would't go in the water to save his life, little wuss

Why are you feeling guilty? She isn't ! LOL

She won't do something as basic as that if it's hurting or harming her. In this cold weather,some of mine still disappear to swim in the river on the farm here, which they delightfully finish off with a dive down rabbit holes. This is to make sure that they are covered in mud before they come home again: wet dog, squeezed into rabbit hole ensures 100 per cent earth coverage !

Know how you feel ,Im of to Bews y Coed now ,plenty of mud and lakes up there. And all I say to her every time she jumps in the mud is WORk SHOP for you when we get home LOL

A good soak kills (drowns) fleas on the animal.

Rolling in mud, when mud driesforms a wind-proof coat/covering on the animal.

Can't keep our little JR cross out of the water. She is very tiny and I really worry she will lose body heat, but she is so active in the water that presumably she doesn't feel the cold.

The other little dog absolutely hates it!

It is odd how some individuals of the same breed love water and others don't, just like humans, I suppose.If you've got the 'wrong' breed, forget dryness because they'll dive straight in. So forget Newfoundlands (!), poodles of any size and a good many others.Strangely even these water-loving breeds can be fussy. I've had poodles that would rush to rivers, ponds and lakes but absolutely refused to go in the sea.One took one look, had a taste of the water and ran straight back with a look to say 'You must be joking! I 'm not going in that! I was bred to retrieve ducks, not seagulls! '

Unfortunately my dog is not fussy about the water she swims in - stagnant ponds attract her much the same and lovely clear rivers. However, she is terrified of having a bath!!

Funny creatures dogs ..We moved from London to the coast with my late lamented Shaney .I don't think he had ever seen the sea . He was a rescue dog .At first he would growl and bark himself silly and run away from the waves until one day we chucked a ball in and off he went like a rocket ! From then on we couldn't keep him out of the water .There were times when I thought he would end up in Holland and we would have to wade in after him ! He was a GSDx. It could be a cold as anything but he took no notice .Mind you he had a big thick coat and the salt water used to make it stinky . Baths ? No way ! He would not be bathed. He used to cost me a small fortune at the groomers only to just get all salty and and smelly again ! Don't worry about your pooch feeling the cold ,she wouldn't do it if she didn't love it. Dogs do doggie things !

Have just returned from Betws Y Coed. Have not seen Kass so clean the lakes and mud holes were frozen over Ha Ha Ha Ha x
