De-Alcoholised Wine

Having had problems with alcohol in the past I have been completely abstemious since April and intend to stay that way. However, with Xmas coming up and the fact that the thought of Diet Coke AGAIN for Xmas lunch is making me feel a bit dismal, I've bought some de-alcoholised wine, (0.2%) for the occasion. It is written about in a very good book called "Beat the Booze" and is recommended for pregnant women. Do you Abers think that allowing myself a small taste of wine and it being virtually nil alcohol is OK. I have strong will power and doctor's medication to ensure my continued sobriety. There is no alcohol in my house. Thanks.

Brilliant news that you are sober. Well done and remember what an amazing achievement it is not to be thinking about a drink all the time.
I wont tell you whether I think its right or not, but I will tell you a tale. My ex - husband joined AA because he is a perfectly functioning alcoholic. He got bored with Coke, started on the Schloer, progressed to Kaliber and within a month was drinking like a fish again

Look for Norfolk Punch - it's fantastic. You can drink it hot or cold, but just keep it away from your friends or there'll be none left!

yes agree with maypole, the taste is enough to get you started again, maybe experiment with other types of fruit drinks avoid alcohol similes even if they are non alcohol, they can become triggers for the real thing. you shouldnt need a buzz for this time of the year, it should be a natural buzz, you have to change your mindset
I agree with Cazzz. I used to drink enough spirits to sink a battleship, but now scarcely touch any alcohol. I gave it up when I was pregnant, and the result was horrendous. I had the shakes, and a real longing for a drink - which proved to me just how used my body'd become to having it. That spurred me on even more. I've now realised that you don't need alcohol as a prop to being lively and happy - and no more hangovers or bad stomachs. You might as well cut it out completely chrissa. Good luck.
