Old war movie

Tryind to remember the name of an old WWII movie. It was based in some pacific island, and the last scene had the allies trying to escape the Japanese. There is a large opening with long grass where some allies are trading shots with the Japs at the other end. The fleeing allies are at the same end as the japs, and decide, the only way to outrun their bullets, is to zizzag run to the other end. Any ideas??

Sounds a bit like the end of Too Late The Hero with Michael Caine and Cliff Robertson, though that's just a guess.
