Lost DVD/CD Drives

Busy going through a re-install of Windows Vista 64 bit. All service packs and updates applied ok.
Now working on re-installing some programs and games. So far so good ;)

I now have a problem in as much my DVD/CD drives (2) have disappeared from 'My Computer'.
In Device Manager they show up with yellow exclamation marks and the 'Properties' dialogue box for both states
"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

I have tried unistalling the Drives and re-starting but return to the same situation.
I have also tried checking in to the error code at M/Soft but have as yet not had any success with Vista 64, appears to me only related to XP.

Can anyone Help me please!

Try something like DriverAgent which will scan your system and recommend drivers/updates.

A bit late now, but it's worth backing up your drivers before a reinstall...

I have the correct drivers installed, but they have been disabled

Found the answer after a lot of searching as follows.

"Method 2 Delete Filter Drivers
======================
1. Click Start, type regedit and press ENTER.

2. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. Right click the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} entry, choose "Export", select Desktop in the Save in box and type backup in File Name. Click Save.

Please Note: The backup file is on the Desktop and named backup.reg. We can simply restore the registry by double-clicking the backup.reg file.

4. Highlight this key ({4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}), on the right pane,
and then check if Upperfilters and Lowerfilters value are present. If so, please right click on the values and select "Delete" to remove them.

5. Restart the computer"

With some trepidation I decided to give it a try, I have an aversion to editing the registry, one false move and its 'fubar' lol.

Works fine now!!
