What colour do u think would go???

'ello, I've recently bought some new property and i'm currently redecorating and the last thing on my list is the hallway, stairs and landing..... I really want to carpet it all with a gorgeous carpet that i can only describe as a deep cranberry colour ... i dont want to wallpaper the walls but feel the walls need a lick of paint, what colours would n e 1 run with? i was thinkin a pale cream/natural colour ... any ideas n e 1?!?!

The carpet sounds fantastic and I think that it would be a shame to use much colour on the walls .. so I would stick to pale cream.

We had this stunning Cranberry carpet put down in our hall about 3 years ago and decided on using an off-white for the walls. Big mistake (for us, anyway!). It makes the whole area look very cold. What we should have done was to use a colour from the same colour range to add warmth, say white with a hint of rose or something like that. As it's such a vast area it'll have to stay as it is for a while - carpet still looks great, though.

Try going on to Dulux.co.uk. They've got a "mouse painter" - you can try all different colur schemes on various template rooms.

I have a carpet of that colour in my playroom - we have wallpaper but it is fundamentally a rich cream with a border freize using reds, browns and cream. I suggest you go with cream and at least then you could paint over without difficulty if it doesn't work for you. There are some period/heritage paint colours which are really really rich creams as opposed to a cheap off-white - I can't remember who makes them but it's a mainstream provider - they would go beautifully and it wouldn't make the room look cold.

Take it from an interior designer's daughter... use two shades of a golden/creme on the wall... how? well, get artistic... paint the walls in a very warm, honey creme... then use painter's tape (the blue masking tape) and mark of some diamond shapes... not all over the wall, but try the upper left corner (when looking at the wall), and fade them into the wall... then do one or two in the middle, maybe some near the middle/top of the right edge, depending on how big the wall is... your best bet? use a craft paint/glaze in "old gold" and that way the honey color will show through. use a sponge to daub it into the "stenciled" diamonds... and fade, fade, fade! It really sounds harder than it is... it's SUPER simple. My mom did it in our house, and it's just that extra touch of warmth that was needed!
