Now i know that bans in somw cases are completely nessescary. However, on going through past q's of my own, i have come across a few which were obv answered, but then the answers banned. The answers were obviously relevant and helpful as i replied "Thank You!!!!" but then that appears to be the only answer there, portraying me as a complete schizo. Why are apparently helpful answers sometimes banned?!

Sadly the editorial policy is not as transparent as one would hope. The terms of use provide a starting point, but are not conclusive. I posted a question asking the editor to give some detail on his/her job aims etc, but my question got banned. Most frustrating, as it had attractred eleven answers that I was unable to read. (I know of the answers because of the email notices). Surely it would be helpful if the editor could explain some of the principles used to decide whether the terms of use have been breached, and a question should be banned.

Dear Users

There are often several reasons why a question or answer is banned. For example:

If it is abusive, profane or sexually explicit.
If it has no relevence to the Question and Answer nature of the site.
Unnessarily chatty threads maybe removed under the judgement of the AB Editor.
Questions and answers may also be automatically removed if reported several times by other user(s).

Unfortunately due to the sheer volume of content on this site it is not possible to give individual responses to the queries about banned answers. If you would like to know more about the reasons for answers being removed, please refer to the Site Rules.

We do however ask for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.

Thank You
