why shouldn't you drink alcohol when on antibiotics? Is it cos it' will make you drunk quicker or is it cos it hinders the antibiotics working? I'm on day 3 of amoxicillin 500mg but its my husbands birthday tomorrow and i'd like to have a glass or two of wine when we're out celebrating. (but obviouslyy dont want to get too trollied and feel sicker than ever)

The reason doctors warn against it is because some of them can cause a reaction, others can be forced through the system too fast (diarrhoea) and then there is the problem of adding inebriation to the illness being treated. As a general rule it is wisest to stay off alcohol but in the case of a family celebration then moderation is the watchword. Have a nice party. :)
Alcohol in moderation + antibiotics is OK with some exceptions...

Drinking alcohol whilst taking amoxycillin can cause a lot of irritation to your stomach - even after one drink.
This can cause you to vomit and can make you feel quite rotten.
Of course, if you vomit shortly after taking your amoxycillin all benefit of the anitbiotic course is lost.
Stick to the soft drinks, and share a bottle of champagne with your husband next weekend. :)

Oooh no I'm sure that doesn't taste nice! I was only joking by the way, I do like 2 or 3 glasses of wine in a session but thats about it and certainly never more than a bottle on a 'big' night out.
