Hostas

Is it too late to divide my Hostas, the new shoots have just appeared above ground. Thanks in advance

I was going to split mine this week, so I hope not!

If the shoots haven't unfolded into leaves yet, they'll do well...

Its just the right time. Chop off pieces with a sharp spade and replant. Remember slugs love them and if Hostas are nibbled when they are tight buds they open up like lace doilies! Put a few slug pellets down at night but remove them and any dead slugs first thing in the morning so the birds don't eat them.

The slugs have never got to any of our Hostas - yet! I place the pots on disused, upturned flat bottomed green wire baskets - it works a treat!

Thats a good idea Smudge, I was thinking of Hostas planted directly in the garden.

Thank you greenfingers - I would never plant Hostas in the ground - they wouldn't last five minutes in our garden - especially after dark when the little blighters come out for a midnight feast!

(The snails & slugs I mean)!
