How do you like to be thanked?
To all courteous motorists (all of us, I'm sure...)
With regards pulling out of a side-road onto a busy main road or changing lanes on a busy motorway out of the following:
- A (left) hand of acknowledgement held up against the rear-view mirror;
- a flash or two of the opposite indicator;
- a couple of flashes of the hazard lights;
- something else; or
- nothing?
- ... How do you thank people if they let you out in front of them?
- How do you like to be thanked if you let someone else out in front of you?
- Do you respond to their gesture of thanks?

If someone lets me out of a junction or lets me change lanes on normal roads, I usually put my hand up to thank them, but if it's on the motorway, or I am driving my works van I usually flash the indicators left-right-left.
There is nothing worse than letting someone out of a junction and they don't thank you, puts me off letting anyone else out, which can only add to queues.
