Can friends ever be lovers?

Just would like to know ABers opinion on this topic. Has anyone been mates with someone, then been in a relationship with them? How did it happen? Did one just tell the other how they felt? How was the break up? Friends again? Also, what if the friend didnt feel the same way, did the friendship regain strength?

I always seem to be mates with the girls I like, by which I am already in the 'friends zone'! I feel like I have more to gain then loose?

ummm , yea totally serious.... he was the only person ever to have licked my eyeball....a strange, but not a horrible experience i might add. We only had a very short relationship, maybe a few weeks as i could see his behaviour getting increasingly strange. Then i listen to the news 15 yrs later and hear his court case of committing murder being detailed. I jus thought....bloody hell....
My mates laugh at my choice of unsuitable blokes!! :-O
