Internet protection mode?

Hi can someone please tell me what internet protection mode is on my laptop? the thing is it slows my laptop down considerably everytime i change a page as it seems to scan lots of info about the page im changing to,i have avast anti virus and windows firewall installed could it be anything to do with these? im on vista home basic.i could really do with switching this internet protection mode off,would this be safe as i have avast installed? cheers

Dunno about you but this is the second time my son has installed avast onto my computer and i think it scans me as well as the computer it takes so ling to do anything, i sometimes just pause it for a few mins till the page loads up and that seems to work for me
