Old school hip-hop?

Is it me or was the old stuff much better? I'm thinking of tracks like Erik B and Rakim's 'My Melody' and Gangstarr's 'Check the Technique'.

I prefer Old School by a lot! Now, every song is drowning in profanity, lyrics about killing, and degrading women. Old stuff was mostly harmless fun- raps about parties and sex. The Fat Boys had many funny raps about food! Sugar Hill Gang is still great.  Hard-to-find cassette (not on CD) but worth the trouble:  "Mr. Magic's Rap Attack, 1&2".

Yeah, too many wack MCs. The new stuff is just Bentleys and bling. Nobody seems to bother with building a good beat either or use samples intelligently. Looks like it's only me and you on this one though..
