We are now approaching Week 4 in the reign of Queen Meg and, with the extra weekend this month, there are still several entrants who could win the glory. Recall that this game has been on-going for over two years now and in that time we have had over 25 different champion/setters. Consequently, when choosing the next MM Champion, I am looking for a reasonable compromise between "predictive skills" and "fresh blood".

Once selected, for the first week there is always a flurry of behind-the-scenes activity to ensure that the in-coming champion has as much (or as little) support that they need to make their term in office as enjoyable as possible. In this respect, Queen Meg has been a delight to work with and has taken to the task like a duck to water!

As usual, the words to be linked will be posted on AB at 9.00 (sharp) and many bonus points are picked off during the first five minutes of play! You need also to look out for the sister game (called KM Links) that kicks off around 07.00am depending on whoever is first to solve the Herculis Crossword in The Daily Telegraph! That can be a bit of a variable feast, but it attracts many entries and scores can be much higher. That truly international version of the Links Game is watched over by "the Hostess with the Mostest" in the form of seekeerz (from the Land of Oz). She takes responsibility for keeping law and order, and seeing that fair play prevails. She will process each prediction and maintain the League Table for the KM Links.

Me? I'm crofter keeper of the scores for MM Links for my sins and I process the predictions and maintain the League Tables for the parallel game.

Goodnight Kay....I presume that you have stopped multi-tasking for now, or do you play scrabble etc in your sleep?
Dustybun, they are so quick and fleet footed that they never have to turn round and face the other way!
Do haggi really exist?

have you caught the haggis yet, Kay ??

Hi Dusty & everyone else or have you all turned in for the night ???
Magyar, of course they exist or how else would we be eating them every year.....although they are very hard to catch and many haggis hunts return from the mountains empty handed (it's surprising that the practice hasn't been banned yet by parliament!!)
What happens to all the haggis legs (lopsided or not) as I've only seen them in the butcher's window dismembered? Are they a separate delicacy like frog's legs?

twix you know about the great haggis hunt ??? great, I remember a friend called warpig wholives in Fife, thought she'd caught a haggis once, but it turned out to be a heffalump instead !!!!

Definitely, Magyar you see, you get two pairs, different lengths, then you sew them together and pretend it's squid !!! Very frugal, the Scots !!!
would that be the practice of eating them or of hunting them? Rumour has it that special dogs are being bred in secret with the same type of long/short legs so that the hunters will not be at a disadvantage. Sadly there have been problems as some of the poor combi-dogs have long legs on opposing corners instead of sides.
That's something I've never fancied eating seekeerz, squid, yuk, it would be like chewing an old rubber boot.
At our Burns Suppers, one of my Glaswegian friends brings along her haggis skeleton together with a fossilised egg, which causes great discussion amongst the guests!

'ullo !!! it's the silly season again, always happens round Burns night - thank goodness Strix isn't here,I'd be had up for - well, I'd have to think about that, more later

Dusty I thought those dogs had been banned for not giving the haggi [plural ??] a fighting chance, see thay were getting very wild and hard to find and the hunters weren't getting any and the dogs only made it worse !!

actually, Magyar if you ever make it down-under there's a restaurant that does salt and pepper squid which is to die for [ well, not quite, but you get the idea ]
Goodnight ... if anyone's still around
