New to this so sorry not sure whether I should have started a new thread or use this one. Anyway, we finished this crossword but don't understand two answers:
2d Mediterranean island capital: sun not hot (5) M?S?N
- presumably MASON to fit with the actor theme, but why?
16d Some rigging involved American appropriating book (9) M?I?B?A?E
- presumably MAINBRACE which is part of a ship's rigging, but how does the rest of the clue fit in?

2d, MAHON is the capital of Minorca; Sun (S), not Hot (H) leaves MA(S)ON, the actor.

16b, Book (b) in anagram of AMERICAN

2d Mahon is the capital of Minorca and substitute h (hot) with s (sun) giving Mason
16d mainbrace is an anagram of American + b (book)
