One hundred years of solitude

I recently read this book and really enjoyed the heightened sense of reality liek a grown up fairytale.Does anyone know any similar books to this that use such prose or slightly myth-like?

This style of writing is called 'Magical Realism' and I found that Louis de Bernieres' Latin American trilogy (The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts, Senor Vivo and the Coca Lord, The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman) put me very much in mind of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I thought Joseph Heller's Catch 22 was written similarly - though I found it rather hard to follow at times - but then Gabriel Garcia Marquez is not everyones cup of tea either!

Famished Road is brilliant.  Also Isabel Allende did a brilliant one called The House of the Spirits and has been accused of totally copying Marquez's style.  You should read Love in a time of Cholera as well by Marquez
