Can I use a hand held blender to whisk up egg whites? cheers guys

Dont think it would work,havent you a whisk??
You certainly can,but it will take you an AWFULLY long time,,and you may be exhausted by the end of it! LOL

Only a hand held break your arm one! not electric. Thanks puddicat
Might sound strange but we used to whip egg whites in a very shallow dish with a fork. Took ages but it did work eventually.
The whisk would work then with some effort!!!
on the instruction manual of most blenders it tells you it's unsuitable for whisking egg whites and whipping cream, thats why I bought one with a whisk attachment. By hand it's going to be hard going! ask your neighbour if you can borrow theirs, just tell them your in the middle of filming " come dine with me" - that usually works!
Don't forget that people were making meringues long before electric whisks were invented.
