Stomach Cancer in cats...can they grow within 10 days?!!

My 13 yr old cat was first diagnosed with some form of infection, after being analysed and xraid, yet 10 days later, after seeing that it just kept loosing weight and energy (she never stopped eating or drinking, but you had to bring it to her, as she would go by herself), a new xray was taken and she had two possible tumors quite big in her stomach...she had undergone several antibiotic treatments, and was sedated at the time, and thus I was adviced to let her go, which I did yesterday. I still wonder if that could be possible...for the cancer to not be detected at first, and then in just 10 days, a radical change in diagnosis. Could anyone tell me if this is so, and thus take away my doubts as to how this could have happened. I still am in shock and grief over the loss of my princess.

It is very possible. There are many different types of cancer and I believe that the 'some form of infection' was probably already a sign that the cancer was active, this one accumulated in the stomach and formed into soft tumors, this can happen quite fast.
It is quite possible that your cat could have lingered on for another few weeks or even months, but with pain which can become terrible in the end - not a pretty sight! Euthanasia was the kindest and best option by far. Pity we are not allowed to do the same to suffering relatives with throat cancer who suffer indescribably and actually choke to death in the end.

Sorry about your cat fern but you did the right thing for her. It is very difficult to let them go but she is free from pain now. Cancer can go undetected and can develop quickly so chances are she would have suffered had you let her go on

so sorry to hear you have lost your little cat you did the right thing to let her go before she was in pain and suffering do not doubt what you did it was the last thing you could help her with and it meant putting her first not yourself , when i had to have my cat put to sleep the vet told me far to many people keep their pets hanging on when it is time to let them go and end their pain xxx ruth
