Hi there.
You can either shred the cabbage and put it in a steamer.
Or shred the cabbage and put it in a large saucepan, with water to only half way up the pan. Quickly bring to the boil, then turn down and simmer for approx 20/25 minutes, test with a sharp fork to see that it is tender, when it is tender enough to your taste, drain in a colander, and return to the warm pan. Then stir in a generous couple of knobs of butter, and sprinkle with ginger powder to taste. This is a lovely winter accompaniment to a main meal. If ginger isn't liked, the cabbage is just as nice with only the butter. Hope your husband likes it, mine does.
Chop some smoked streaky bacon & fry until cooked. Add your chopped red cabbage, a chopped cooking apple, a little water and 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar to the pan. Bring to the boil then simmer on a low heat until most of the liquid has gone & you're left with a gorgeously sticky mess.
Delicious!
quite like it but when they serve it with a roast weird!!
i always do spiced red cabbage with cranberries to have with christmas dinner and the way it disappears i doubt any of my family think it's weird! it's no more weird than having mint sauce with lamb or apple sauce with pork is it? maybe you're just not very adventurous where food is concerned :)
What is a roast weird?
