Bacon and Chesse Thingies!

My boyfriend loves those cheese wrapped in bacon things, which Asda only sell at Christmas. He's hoping to make them himself, but can only find processed cheese (as this is the type of cheese used in them) in slices rather than a whole block of it. Does anyone know where we can buy a block of processed cheese. Many thanks!

P.S. I forgot to also ask: What makes ''processed'' cheese processed?!!

i dont know about blocks of processed cheese, but monteray jack cheese melts very similarly.

why not try feta or halloumi cheese? halloumi is the national cheese of cyprus and is available at all supermarkets. it has a slightly smokey flavour which compliments bacon down to a tee. simply slice the halloumi (quiet chunky) then wrap the bacon and fry for a few minutes - gorgeous!

I don't shop at Asda so don't know if they stock it, but try looking out for Provolone cheese on the deli, that is a similar texture etc

 i saw some blocks of processed cheese in a jamaican shop in my local area looked horrible,  have you tried looking out for velveta which is the american stuff they might have that at jerrys home store in london.

I believe the term "processed" is used to mask the fact that the majority of the ingredients have nothing to do with cheese.  Velveeta is a "processed cheese food", meaning it's not enough cheese to be considered cheese.
