Cannabis and I.V. Sedation

Hi

Last night, for the first time in about 2 years, I had half a joint - I then remembered that I'm having a tooth out under sedation in about 10 days - I checked the leaflet which the clinic sent which said you can't smoke cannabis for 4 weeks before being sedated!! ARRGGHH!! Muppet!!

So, two questions.

Has anyone been sedated while having used cannabis in the preceeding few days and if so, what happened?

If it really is a bad idea to go through with it, if I tell the clinic the real reason for rearranging the appointment, can they pass on the info that I've smoked cannabis on to anyone else?

i would guess if the leaflet specifically states no cannabis in the preceeding 4 weeks then there is a reason for that. It seems a pretty silly thing to state if there are no consequences. What is the sedation for? is it something pretty urgent?. I wuld imagine if it goes in your medical notes, anyne who has access to them in the future will be able to see it (but probably not really care). The only scenarion where i think it would matter is if for example you got pregnant and someone saw it in there and became concerned I hardly think they are going to call the police though

No it's not urgent - the tooth doesn't hurt, it's just that I've waited for the appointment for about 3 months... which I know isn't a reason not to cancel it.

The only reason that I don't just rearrange is because I have a friend who's taken time off work to come to the clinic with me (you have to have someone go with you..) and I feel bad about messing her around. So I feel really annoyed with myself for doing it!!!!

Even if someone did call the police there is nothing they can do to you,you have to be in possession of an illegal substance to be prosecuted for it...........you cannot be prosecuted for having consumed a small amount of cannabis.

I would phone up and say you now have to work and there's no way you can get out of it, so please can you have another appointment. The people on the appointment desk hear this ALL DAY and won't be in the slightest bit interested in your reasons why you need another appointment. In fact it just means that someone else will get an earlier appointment, which is good.

It's clearly a medical reason for not combining sedative and cannabis so best avoid it.

similar to last post, but i would phone up and say you were with people at a party and there was a lot of it going on so you have undoubtedly got some in your system, and just ask what the consequences of this are. so what if they dont believe you werent just smoking it? its not their place to question this. if they tell you its dangerous, then you obviously will want to re-arrange your appointment. just ask.

my mate smokes every day and he's had a couple of teeth out recently with no probs. i would check with the practioner to be on the safe side. i think its prob arse covering in case you have a reaction to the anesthetic. whenever i go to the dentist i have to take some antibiotic beforehand as i've has heart surgery years ago (and it was corrective and noiprobs since!)

Cannabis can depress your respiratory system. i.e your breathing goes into 'lazy mode' and whilst you may be unaware of it, you may breathe slower. I.V sedation does the same thing so combining the two things could technically result in a respiratory arrest (you stop breathing!!!!). Probably unlikely unless you are a regular user. However, the risk is always there!!!!!

I decided it wasn't worth the risk of just going so I phoned them up today and they've delayed my appointment by a few weeks.
