I remember Fiona Bruce saying she hoped her family wasn't going to be boring and it would be unfair to label Mr Stein's family in that way, but I missed the usual "you thought your ggg grandfather was safely forgotten but we've brought him here to see you tonight" routine that they managed so well with Angus McGowan and Boris Johnson. It just seemed very "local" in its coverage, really concentrating on just two people and not very far in the past. From Rick Stein's point of view, however, they were probably the two people it was most important to find.
Dundurn - yes, I agree .... that's probably why it had faded from my memory ... it wasn't as interesting as some ... but them I am always amazed that these celebs have such checkered pasts anyway - I have been researchin my own family for 3 years and whie it's been interesting the most dramatic thing I have found is someone who was locked away for poaching!! Hardly in the same league.
There's been a couple episodes in this series which i have thought disappointing
Both the Rick Stein and Rory Bremner episodes had a big chunk of the programme looking into their father's history, which although i appreciate was deeply meaningful for them, it was hardly delving into dim and distant pasts!
at least go back a couple of generations!!
