I declined an engagement ring as I wsn't 'into' jewellery and requested a Singer sewing machine instead. It cost �30 43 years ago (Bit heavy on me finger) and has run up countless curtains! We're in a good marriage irrespective of jewellery though I do like 'dress' jewellery now - bling an all that!

I couldn't give a toss about the cost of a ring! I agree that if you get one that is made of plastic it won't last the lifetime of your marriage (!!!) so it's good to get one that is well made and doesn't turn your finger green. But who cares really if it's real diamond? Not me!
