Hi, we live in a house with a large conservatory attached to the back. This means that what was the back wallof the house is now one wall of the conservatory. I would really like to paint the wall, as it's quite ugly, but am not sure whether I need masonry paint or if I can use ordinary emulsion. The conservatory is about 10 years old so the wall hasn't been exposed to outside conditions for a long time, although it does get very cold in the winter as we don't tend to use or heat it then.
Don't bother with PVA. If the wall needs sealing, (unlikely with brick and cement), the instructions on the masonry paint will tell you to use 1 part water to 5 parts paint to do the job. You might have to seal if the bricks have been laid with mortar instead of cement. Test a small area.
Thanks for all the help. the wall is about 40 years old and I think is cement and brick rather than brick and mortar. If I can get away without the PVA that would be good!
