with a budget of �34K which would be the best buy, an 07 plate cayman S with 16k miles on the clock for �30k, or a 05 plate carrera S with 34K miles on the clock for �34K (both look immaculate in their adverts) ?

Porsche enthusiasts will always prefer the 911 models to other "lesser" Porsches, stating the more rewarding driving experience. It's also the one with the cudos. By shortlisting two "S" models I take it you are a keen driving enthusiast? It's well documented by the press that the Cayman S is perhaps the best handling and most rewarding all-round Porsche to drive... but a 996 C2S is a car that will have more longevity and hold value better.
