Most of the times when I either shut down or put it into sleep mode, it fires itself up again onto the sign in screen. I'm sure I'm doing it the right way, ie click on Start and then click on shut down or sleep.

Does anyone know why it is doing this and is there any way of making it behave!!?

When you shut the lid (screen) of a laptop it can perform an operation. Default is normaly to shut down, some can be set to restart or log off and go to the 'log on' screen. When you switch off make sure it has switched off before closing or change the settings to 'do nothing when I close the lid'. If you go to 'control panel' and check your power settings i think there is a tab for power options and the lid thingy is listed in there. Hope this helps

Thanks so much. I'll check this out. Cheers
I have the same laptop and have just altered my settings. Go to "Control Panel," click on "Power Options" (it's a green battery icon) then on the top left hand side you'll see "choose what closing the lid does."

Thanks for that gazza. I've never looked at that icon on the Control Panel. You learn something new every day!! I don't think I've got a sleep button though. If I have, where is it please?
Sorry, forgot to check back, it's the F1 button.
