Unfortunately I am stuck in the same area and also in the top right with 2d and 3d.

My thinking on 39a is could it be STRING eg ST =good and ring = CLASP ??

the diagonal reading FRANCES
- The F from Face
- R from Arches
- A from Chain
-N from Earned
- C from Closer etc

Am still working on the second word possibly starts with FAR

I've got nearly everything now, including the name, but am just stuck on 36d. Is the F in the middle part of the (presumably) NZ bird?

Not far to go ... I have got the name now ... elementary when you know. I now have to work on three clues and 11 down.

By now Magistra should have finished especially if he recalls who Man City tried to buy in January.
