Page down a couple and you'll see we are now funding Irish travellers to the tune of 93k. Low life thieving scum deserve no help from us. I've stopped donating to Comic relief now. Who's joining me?

It isn't racism. To suggest such is to misunderstand what racism is.
OK, enlighten me please
Question Author
Irish is not a race, caucasian is a race. Anyway, I did say Irish because that was what was on the website, I wasn't clear at he time but what I meant is any of the "travellers" regardless of any particular origin. Now Hilly care to address the actual question now.

Ive just typed the following having not read R1Geezer and HPSauces posts. It just seemed a shame to waste it...

HillyHugger ... [Quote] 'Because ALL Irish travellers are thieving scum. Hitler didn't like gypsies either. ' Sounds racist to me...

You appear to be labouring under the impression that the Irish are a race.

They are not.

Caucasian is a race. Asian is a race. African is a race.

Sorry, but the Irish are not a race. In the same way that the English are not a race; nor are the Scots, Welsh, etc.

Im getting sick of the term racist being used to describe almost any identifiable group of people. Its yet another symptom of a lack of understanding of the English language.

...or is it OK to insult the Irish ? Yes it is. Just as its fine to insult the English, Welsh, French, etc. Just so long as you understand that these are generalisations. You should not take offence simply because you happen to belong to that particular group or people. Im English and Ive heard derogatory jokes about the English. Do I find them amusing? Yes, if its a good joke.

The point is - dont be so precious about your nationality.

Are you now enlightened?
their children still deserve some support; they have done nothing to warrant their position at the bottom of society and abuse on websites such as this.

The term 'race' is sometimes now used interchangeably for 'ethnicity' but that is largely irrelevant in modern usage.

OK English *********** . whatever you say I can't be arsed to argue anymore
Because it is difficult to argue when one is wrong.

I don't know what the asterisked word is - but as an Englishman, and despite it obviously being derogatory, I do not feel I have been the subject of racist abuse and nor do I feel insulted.
