Photo ID on Ryanair

Hi were hoping to go to Dublin in few weeks time travelling on Ryanair. One of us does not have a passport and only has a provisional driving licence. Can anyone tell me if this is acceptable photo i.d on Ryanair?? It states a driving licence is but doesn't clarify whether it's only a full one that is accepted......

've travelled on ryanair many times and 9 out of 10 times nobody has checked my id!

Try Aer Lingus.I just checked their website, and they accept much more photo id:

Passengers under 16 years travelling to the UK from Ireland, or within the UK need not have their own passport or be named on their parent's passport, however it is advisable that they bring some form of identification (e.g. birth certificate, bus pass or student card) if possible. The following ID are accepted:

* Valid Passport
* Driver�s licence with photo
* International student card
* National ID card / Government issued photo ID cards
* Health Insurance cards with photo / Social security cards with photo
* Bus pass with photo
* Work ID with photo

I always thought that you needed a passport to fly anywhere??

If you are travelling to Dublin, you are not travelling to the UK from Ireland nor are you inder 16 (I guess), so I wouldn't go too much by kira's info.

Eire is another country, you need a passport.

You may find that you can get onto a plane with photo id and into Ireland but you will not get back into the UK without a passport - and therefore the airlines won't let you on board as they'd be responsible for taking you back.

Despite the misinformation of the last two posts travellers are currently allowed passport-free movement on air and sea routes between the UK and the Republic of Ireland (Eire) as part of the Common Travel Area (CTA). It is at the discretion of each individual carrier as to what forms of ID they will accept for travel.

Passengers who are citizens of other countries travelling on these routes must present a valid passport (with visa if applicable) or a National Identity Card issued either by the government of a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland.FROM THE 1ST OCTOBER 2009 ONWARDS DRIVING LICENCES WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTABLE PHOTO-ID ON RYANAIR FLIGHTS.
