York, UK
Can anyone tell me:
1) Is the railway station in the city centre in York?
2) Is there a good quality hotel in walking distance of the railway station what anyone would recommend please?
Thanks - am looking at booking a weekend away for my parents and the accomodation needs to be near the train for convenience.

Hi echokilo
It usually takes me 5, 10 minutes at the most to walk into the centre of York so it couldn't be much closer really.
As for hotels I can't help as I've always lived in York so never needed to use one! But any hotel in the centre would be close enough to both station and attractions I should think. York is not that big so most places they would probably want to visit should be in walking distance.

hi echo - the station is in the city centre and is in easy walking distance of the shops and main tourist attractions like the Minster and Shambles etc.
There is a hotel called The Royal York which is literally next door to the station (come out of station - turn left - and it is the next building along. Don't know what it is like as being a Yorkie I have never stayed there.

If you have a particular type of hotel in mind let me know and I'll have a think for you

I stayed here -

- with my mum just before Christmas and it was a lovely wee hotel. Less than 10 minutes walk from the station and right beside the river so you could sit in the lounge with a drink and look out over the water. Five minutes walk the other way and you were in the main shopping area.
If you just do a google search for it, you'll get some special deals. I used Superbreak and got a good price.
