Immobiliser Trouble (i think) for my Meriva

whilst gardening my little 2 yr old son was playing in my vauxhall meriva (god knows why i let him in there) but from what i can gather, he has pulled really hard on the steering wheel and now the car will not start and im guessing this is smthng to do with the immobiliser. any ideas how i can get the car starting

Try your remote key once or twice Splatt, then go back to going to start the car.

theres nothing that i could think of that would affect the immobiliser by a 2 year old yanking on the steering wheel.
I assume that when the key is turned the stering lock comes off ?

when i try to start the car the engine is dead but the alarm makes a double click noise, the same as when i put on the alarm or turn it off and the steering wheel can not be turned, its totally stuck..

Hi again, use your remote as you normally do get into your car, insert the key grab the steering wheel & rotate enough for the lock to become unlocked, then try the car, I hope I do not come over as patronising with my answer Splatt, this should sort out your problem.

thanks twr, not patronishing at all but when i tried ystrdy the steering wheel was jammned. however i will try again when i get home.

when the wheel is in the locked position its easy to think its jammed. Key in the lock and wiggle/shake the wheel should release it.

well, no luck im afraid, the steering does unlock but the engine doesnt start

This is a guess Splatt, check all your fuses. I cannot see what your son has done to effect the Steering or the alarm/immobiliser. the reason I have said fuses where I used to work I changed a Flasher bulb a while ago in turn blew the fuse that effected the electric to the power steering, talk about unbelievable, but that's the case. I am on here tonight try it out before it gets dark.

i know youre gonna think im really dumb, but where do i find the fuses and how do i check them?

Join the RAC, wait 24hrs and call them.

Hi, If I remember rightly, to the right of the steering column, just above your right leg, I cannot remember what fuse it was but make sure the Ign is switched off whilst to check them or better still check your hand book. I never call anyone dumb Splatt, we are either Mechanical knowledgeable or not, do not knock yourself.

Again, to check the fuse look at the top of the fuse there is a very thin wire that bridges a gap,or as you look in the plastic you will see what resembles a " M" if it looks to have broken the "W" there is your problem.
