guinea pig?

our guinea is a boar aged 1yr 6mths old and recently his breathing seems to be quite quick like hes out of breath or scared, he seems fine in everything else hes eating, drinking, sleeping etc and squeeking could anyone let me know if they have had the same problem thanks. as always these things always seem to happen over the holidays!!!! i would appreciate any advice xxx

Hi. What is your guinea pig sleeping on. If it's hay, he could have an allergy (a bit like humans have hayfever), because sometimes hay can be a bit musty which causes the problem. It would be better for him if you could get dust-free wood shavings (obtainable from most good pet shops). You could try this to see if his breathing improves, but don't leave it too long, if there's no improvement, get the vet to have a look at him. Hope all goes well. Schutz.

hiya hes bedded on shredded paper as he had mites from the hay when he was a baby ive got an appt for him at the vets so hopefully all will be ok thanks for taking the time to reply x
