Acer "Orange Dream"

I ahve a collection of Acers that I have nurtured over the past 10 years or so and when in "full flight" they look amazing. The colours are wonderful. However, last year my Daughter gave me an "Orange Dream" variety and sadly it died. I then bought one myself to replace the original and that too has died. With all my other acers I use ericaceous compost (advice from the RHS) and also with the Orange Dream. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong ? Many thanks

Apart from the saying that "third time is lucky" Perhaps you ought to do something different. Such as; plant your Acer in loam rather than ericaceous comp.(as Acers generally like a ph.averaging about 6 which is just below neutral); that drains well; don't feed it as it might get leggy, and don't place it any darker than light shade.

some varieties of acer...seems to be the brightest coloured ones are just not that robust. There is a small specialist nursery near me who grow and sell all kinds of weird and wonderful plants that need the specific conditions that they have. They are really reluctant to sell some f these plants to people who don;t have the right conditions as they know that they are difficult to keep. As I said at the beginning, some of these are their brightest most attractive acers
