pc restore
after backing up my pc some weeks ago using macrium reflect i now find the file corrupted. it only restores about 79 percent of the drive. i`ve got it working a bit but there are corrupted files all over the shop. i hoked out the reload backpc cd disk that came with it (i`ve done this bit before) when i tried ro restore it this way i was presented with an error message (38 image invalid) if i got a windows xp home disk from somewhere, installed it and used my original product key would that work? i`ve even thought about ubuntu as a last resort but i`m not sure what kinda software is available to replace the stuff i had. any suggestions would be gratefully received

it looks like there is a mountable explorer type prog that would allow you to mount the image and copy files from it
but it only works with the whole package installed
if your os is working ... install reflect and see what you can recover
if not ... it looks like a clean install ... and again ... hope you can mount and recover at least some
after the stable and all that ... but it's probably worth dropping the compression and use verify

thanks bud, tried that and had a good poke about. most of my progs run from a second drive and i copy and store all my other stuff in another external drive. its the operating system that seems to have suffered from the corrupt files. things like chkdsk, rundll32.exe and srclient.dll. i found this site

but i have this thing running. firefox stopped working cos of undeletable corrupt files. i did a registry scan too over 2600 errors. dint delete anything though.
as you said a clean install would probably be the best option so do you think borrowing a xp home disk and using my registration code work?
